Cookies Policy
A transparent look at our minimal cookie usage and privacy-first approach.
Quick Summary
We take a privacy-first approach to cookies. Servd uses essential cookies for authentication and optional analytics cookies to understand how visitors use our site.
Essential: One session token cookie for authentication when you log into the restaurant dashboard.
Optional: Google Analytics cookies for page view tracking and Microsoft Clarity cookies for user behavior analytics (heatmaps, session recordings). These help us understand visitor behavior and improve our platform. You can opt out at any time.
For preferences and cart items, we use browser storage (localStorage/sessionStorage) instead of cookies. This data stays on your device and is never automatically sent to our servers. We do NOT use: Facebook Pixel, advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking technologies.
1. What Are Cookies and Browser Storage?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. Servd uses only one essential cookie for authentication.
In addition to cookies, modern browsers offer localStorage and sessionStorage - technologies that allow websites to store data directly in your browser. Unlike cookies, this data is NOT automatically sent to our servers with every request. We primarily use browser storage instead of cookies for user preferences and shopping cart data.
This policy covers both cookies and browser storage technologies used by Servd.
2. How We Use Cookies and Browser Storage
Servd uses a privacy-first approach to cookies and browser storage. We separate essential functionality from optional analytics:
- Maintain your authentication session when logged into the restaurant dashboard (essential)
- Remember your preferences (theme, language) stored in browser storage for a better experience
- Store your shopping cart items when ordering food using browser storage
- Track website analytics using Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand visitor behavior and improve our platform (optional - requires your consent)
- Understand user interactions through heatmaps and session recordings via Microsoft Clarity to improve site usability (optional - requires your consent)
- Ensure security and prevent unauthorized access
3. What We Use
We take a privacy-first approach and only use essential technologies. Below is a complete list of all cookies and browser storage we use:
Cookies
Strictly Necessary Cookies
RequiredThese cookies are essential for the Platform to function properly. They enable core functionality such as authentication and security. You cannot opt out of these cookies.
Analytics Cookies
OptionalThese cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website by collecting and reporting information anonymously. We use Google Analytics for page view tracking and Microsoft Clarity for user behavior analytics (heatmaps, session recordings). These services help us improve site usability and user experience. You can opt out of these cookies at any time through the cookie preferences manager.
Browser Storage (Not Cookies)
Browser Local Storage
RequiredWe use browser local storage (not cookies) to store certain preferences and data locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly interact with our Platform.
Browser Session Storage
RequiredWe use browser session storage (not cookies) for temporary data that is deleted when you close your browser tab.
4. What We Don't Use
Unlike many websites, Servd does NOT use:
- Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, or any advertising/tracking cookies
- Marketing or promotional cookies
- Social media tracking cookies
- Cross-site tracking or fingerprinting technologies
- Third-party data brokers or data selling
We believe in minimal and transparent data collection. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are our only third-party analytics services and are completely optional - you can opt out at any time. We do not share your data with advertisers or use it for marketing purposes beyond understanding how our platform is used. Microsoft Clarity is used solely for user experience improvements, not advertising.
5. Managing Your Data
You have full control over the data stored in your browser:
5.1 Clearing Browser Storage
- You can clear all local storage and session storage through your browser settings
- In most browsers: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → Select 'Cookies and site data'
- This will remove all stored preferences, cart items, and session data
- Your authentication session will remain active until you explicitly log out
5.2 Managing Cookies
- You can customize your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the 'Manage Cookie Preferences' button at the bottom of any page or at the top of this policy
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are optional and can be disabled through the cookie preferences manager
- You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings
- Note that blocking the essential session cookie will prevent you from logging into the restaurant dashboard
- The session cookie is essential for authentication and cannot be disabled for logged-in functionality
- No action is needed if you only use the public menu viewing features
5.3 Data Transparency
- All browser storage data remains on your device and is never automatically sent to our servers
- You can inspect all stored data using your browser's Developer Tools (F12 → Application/Storage tab)
- We don't use any third-party tracking or analytics services
- Your data is only used to improve your experience on our Platform
6. Do Not Track Signals
We respect your privacy choices. Our optional analytics services (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) allow you to opt out at any time through our cookie preferences manager.
We do not use advertising cookies or perform cross-site tracking or behavioral profiling. Our analytics services are used only for understanding site usage and improving user experience, not for advertising purposes.
The essential session cookie and browser storage are necessary for core functionality and cannot be disabled, but they do not track you across websites.
7. Data Storage and Security
The essential session token cookie is used for authentication and contains a secure, encrypted identifier. It does not contain any personal information in readable form.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) are set by third-party services and contain anonymized identifiers used to distinguish users and track sessions. These cookies do not contain personal information.
Microsoft Clarity records user interactions through heatmaps and session recordings. These recordings automatically mask sensitive data like passwords, credit card numbers, and personally identifiable information.
Browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) contains only non-sensitive data such as preferences and shopping cart items. All data remains on your device unless you actively interact with our Platform (e.g., placing an order).
We implement appropriate security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure cookie flags (HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite), IP anonymization for analytics, automatic sensitive data masking in Clarity recordings, and regular security audits.
8. Data Retention
Different types of data are retained for different periods:
- Session cookie: Automatically expires after 30 days of inactivity or when you log out
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): Retained for 2 years from your last interaction, or until you delete them through your browser or cookie preferences
- Analytics cookies (Microsoft Clarity): _clck and CLID cookies retained for 1 year, _clsk cookie for 1 day, or until you delete them through your browser or cookie preferences
- Local storage data: Persists until you manually clear it or uninstall your browser
- Session storage data: Automatically deleted when you close your browser tab
- Google Analytics data: Anonymized analytics data is retained according to Google's data retention policies (configurable, typically 14-26 months)
- Microsoft Clarity data: Session recordings and heatmap data are retained for up to 18 months according to Microsoft's data retention policies
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legislation, or our practices. When we make significant changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Notify you through a banner on our Platform
- Send an email notification (if you have an account)
- Request renewed consent if legally required
We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
